App Marketing: The Power of Review Sites!

Marketing apps can be tricky business. There’s a lot of competition in just about every category, so once you develop an app that satisfies a need, tag it with a catchy name and get it approved for launch, the next step is to get it out to everyone. In addition to a well thought out social media strategy that includes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, and paid ads, you have to reach out to blogs and publications to review, or at least mention your app to their readers and/or viewers.

A great example is this recent video review of Color Splash+ FX by Shaun Hatton on EP Daily!

As an app developer, this is the type of professionally produced review you want. The video is fun, fast paced and above all, shareable!

One the latest and “coolest” review sites to hit the scene is CoolAppsMan, boasting early beta success of over 1 million visits per month! The site officially launched this week and covers not only app reviews, but also game and app walkthroughs and industry news.

According to Key Reads CEO Robertson Price, “We have created a valuable marketing solution for app developers, gamers stuck on that last level, as well as busy parents, students, and professionals looking for tools to make their lives easier.”  Definitely a must watch.

How do I get my app reviewed?
Each blog and publication has different preferences for how they like to be pitched. Some have forms to fill out and some prefer to be contacted via mail. Be brief, describe your app clearly and include a link to your trailer video, if you have one, or to the app website, Facebook or download page where they can get more information. Consider following up after a week or so, unless the blog or publication has clearly indicated there’s no need.
The real value of getting your app reviewed and/or even mentioned on blogs and review sites is to create third party endorsements that:
  • Reach the review site’s fan base creating awareness
  • Give you additional marketing content to share across your social networks

People eventually get tired of your telling them how great your app is so it’s essential to get  that stamp of approval and additional exposure that comes with a review.
