In less than a decade, it has become clear that social networking sites have gained mass popularity. The most dominant sites, Facebook and Twitter, have usurped consumer attention and leveraged it in profitable ways for their individual business and third parties. In an attempt to achieve equal success as Facebook and Twitter, Google released its own social networking site: Google+. With functionalities that extend beyond individual use, Google+ has clearly defined ways to help a brand develop greater opportunities to connect with its target and aspirational audience.
Currently, Google+ has over 235 million monthly active users within its identity service. Knowing that, it may be a good idea to hop onto the Google+ wagon. While the social networking site is popular amongst individual users, it has many benefits on the business/brand side. As its tagline asserts, Google+ lets you “share the right things with the right people”; gone are the days of sending information to everyone instead you can cater your message per group. This can be seen in one of the best features within Google+: its Circles and Hangouts. By using Circles, a brand is able to group followers based on various demographics from consumer type to location. This is great as communication to a target audience becomes just that: targeted to that audience. By using Hangouts, brands can create videos and share them to their followers. Want to deliver a video message from the CEO of your company about the newest product advancements, go right ahead with a Google Hangout! A company that incorporates Google+ into their communication strategy is the Los Angeles news network, Fox 11 Los Angeles (right) The network broadcasts entertainment updates, stories, and celebrity interviews via Google+ and shares it with their community. The beauty behind how they communicate with the followers is, should a person miss the news in the morning or the hangout at its specific day and time, they can still find the content on the hangout at a later date.
With Google+, communicating with groups of people and delivering information is easy and seamless. Don’t forget, since the site is a platform by Google, it’s also indexed by Google. This means once you have a business page, you become easier to find and your visibility increases. Score!
