12 Reasons Your Video Ads Are Boring AF and What To Do About It

Hey! Supercool has compiled a list of 12 reasons your video ads are boring AF –  and most importantly, – what you can do about it to make sure your next video ad campaign is amazingly NOT boring AF.

1. Your video Ad is too long And Nobody Cares

Oh, S#!T Balls!

You  launched your video ads and they flamed out!

I know!

We’ve all done it.

You and your team of marketing rockstars spent hours, days, weeks, months –  Ok – probably hours if we’re being real? – brainstorming, writing scripts, and perfecting every little detail of your video ad campaign –

OR, you hired a video ad agency, video production company…

Attention spans have always been short – I mean hell, in the old days everyone waited for commercial breaks to go make a sandwich, walk the dog, take a pee… and maybe they’re even a little shorter are short these days.

If your video ad is longer than 30-60 seconds, and your audience isn’t viewers 79-80 year olds staring at a Roomba infomercial wondering what the darn thing will do next, chances are people are going to lose interest and scroll past. Keep it short, sweet, and to the point, and your audience will be more likely to engage with your content.

2. You’re not speaking to your target audience

If your video ad is generic and doesn’t speak to the specific needs and interests of your target audience, they’re not going to care about your brand. Make sure you’re tailoring your message to your audience’s unique pain points and desires, and your video ads will be significantly more engaging and successful.

3. You’re not storytelling

Yes, your video ad needs to inform people about your product or service, but it also needs to tell a story. People connect with stories, not blatant sales pitches – unless that blatant sales pitch is letting me know about a Black Friday sale on AirPods I need, or a 2-for-1, medium pizza, 2-topping offer at dominos.

In that case, I’m ok with the pitch and don’t care about the story.

I just want AirPods and a couple of pizzas.

Otherwise, use your video ads as an opportunity to tell a compelling story that resonates with your audience!

4. There’s no emotional hook

If your video ad doesn’t tug at people’s heartstrings or evoke some sort of emotional response, it’s not going to be memorable. Whether it’s humor, sadness, awe, or inspiration, find a way to tap into people’s emotions and you’ll have a much more engaging video ad.

5. Your visuals are generic

If your video ad looks like every other video ad out there, people aren’t going to pay attention. Make sure your visuals are unique, eye-catching, and visually appealing.

Consider animation or special effects to make your video stand out!

6. Your sound and/or music choices are off

Oh yeah! Bad sound can completely ruin video ads.

Make sure the video ad agency / video production company / creative or marketing agency you work with has Invested in awesome quality audio equipment and talented sound professionals – to assure your sound is crystal clear and compelling to listen to.

If your video ads have music tracks – choose music that fits your brand messaging and resonates with your audience.

7. You’re not showcasing your product or service

Make they care about what they’re watching and only care about what you’re offering!

If your video ad doesn’t give people a clear idea of what your product or service is, they’re not going to know why they should care.

Show them exactly what you’re offering, and how it will benefit them.

8. There’s no call to action

Your video ads need a clear CTA – call to action!

All video ads have a clear call to action!

What do you want people to do after watching your ad? Buy now? Call now? Visit your website? Sign up for your service?

Always make sure you now what action you want your audience to take next and make it clear!

9. Your script is too salesy

Here’s a famous and alway relevant quote!

People don’t like to be sold, but they love to buy – Jeffrey Gitomer

If your script / video ads are too salesy, people are going to tune out because they sense the sales pitch is coming.

Instead – focus on helping by calling out pain points – set up the problem – and quickly bring on the solution.

10. You’re not using humor

Humor is a great way to make your video ads more engaging.

If appropriate for your brand and message, consider injecting some humor into your video to make people laugh and leave a lasting impression.

If humor is your downfall, contact Supercool and let’s talk about ways too add the funny to your upcoming video ad campaigns – and even further develop your brand voice across all future video ads.

11. You’re not addressing objections

People have objections when it comes to buying products or services. Anticipate what objections your target audience may have, and address them head-on in your video ad to alleviate any concerns they may have.

12. Your videos are just boring AF – because your brand,  product or service is boring AF

OH BOY!

Most brands, products and services are boring AF – so don’t sweat it!

Figure out what makes your’s special and double down on that.
