New YouTube ad rant – McDonalds. I’m trying to watch YouTube and now every time I get hit with a very authentic Columbian / South American vibe with coffee bushes and a dude with an authentic coffee bean picking hat and marginally hispanic accent that says “we have a saying… mi coffee es su coffee.” I get what that means, but then when you watch further… because it doesn’t let you skip after :05, it let’s you know that it’s for McDonalds, and for a limited time. Limited hospitality = marketing, right? Good move to give away the coffee but back off on Señor semi-hispanic Bean Master playing it off as if it’s culture to give away free coffee to everyone who visits his village. It’s not sincere. Just say “We teamed up with this dude in the Columbian jungle who makes kickass beans and coffee, and we’re giving it away for a while, hoping you’ll like it more than Starbucks and Burger King and you’ll come back for more because it’s better. That simple. McDonald’s, need help with your marketing? Give me a shout.
